How are you doing? How's your summer going?
Everything's going pretty well! I’m back at my parents' house for the summer though…
Haha how's that?
It' s not too bad. But l haven't found a fulltime job yet so my parents are putting me to work around the house
I've also tried to earn some money by mowing some neighbors' lawns, but it hadn't exactly worked out.
This guy across the street, Mr. Grey, hired me to mow his lawn for the summer and then didn't pay me.
I don’t know what I can do to get the money he owes me.
So that’s why I went to talk to him.
That’s what I figured. So, I made the offer to mow his lawn for him for the summer.
I was pretty clear. I offered to mow his entire lawn once a week for as long as I could last!
Did you tell him how much you would charge?
Nope. Would that have been better?
So that was it? He just repeated that he “needed some help around the house”? I’m again worried that there isn’t a contract. Name, what do you think?
Ugh so it looks like acceptance is a problem too. Let me ask you another relevant question:
I’m not sure exactly how old he is. He must be in his eighties.
Looking back at our conversation, he did seem a little confused. He just kept repeating that he needed help around the house.
Name, do you think there’s anything I can do now to get the money he owes me?
This means that I won’t be compensated for the time I spend doing the work and I spent at least $30 getting ready to do the job.
Then I mowed her lawn yesterday. When she paid me $30 again, I remined her that we had agreed to $40 per week. She said that we agreed to $30?!
Hold on … I never agreed to $30 a week! I gave her the contract, watched her read it, sign it, and she gave it back to me to sign. I signed it then I did the work later in the week. Name, there’s no way I accepted this … right?
But I didn’t think to read the contract after she signed! I just signed, put it in my bag, and went home. I didn’t read it again until she underpaid me. It was an honest mistake.
Wait, does this mean I’m stuck mowing her lawn for the rest of the summer? At only $30 a week??
